Aloo Tikkis

Aloo Tikki -

Aloo tikki is a versatile and popular potato preparation, that can be had as it is, or as part of a gravy or a chaat preparation. Here is a relatively simple version that you can prepare with readymade spice powders. If required, ask an elder to help you mash the potatoes. Cut the tikkis into different shapes using cookie cutters, to make them look more interesting.

Ingredients:

4 potatoes , peeled and boiled
1/2 cup boiled green peas
1 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania) leaves
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp chaat masala
1/2 tbsp lemon juice
salt to taste
2 tbsp oil to fry the tikkis

Method:

Put the potatoes & peas in a mixing bowl and mash well till no lumps remain.
Add the coriander leaves, chilli powder, chaat masala, lemon juice & salt and mix well.
Divide into 8 portions & roll into round patties.
Cut out shapes using your hand or a cookie cutter.
Heat the oil in a frying pan & shallow fry all the tikkis on both sides till golden brown.
Put in a serving plate and serve hot with ketchup.
