Goan Crab Curry -
This crab curry made in Goanese style is in itself enough to impress your guests with your cooking style.Ingredients:
Blue crab (fresh): 6 mediumOnions (sliced): 1 big
Black peppercorns (crushed): 8-10
Garlic (crushed): 2 tsp
Cloves: 6
Cinnamon: 2 stick
Ginger (chopped): 2 tsp
Dry red chilies (chopped): 4-6
Turmeric powder: ½ tsp
Cumin powder: 1 tsp
Coriander powder: 1 tsp
Coconut (grated): 1 cup
Coconut milk (thick): 1 cup
Salt to taste
Oil: 2-3 tbsp
Instructions:
Wash and clean the crab, separate the smaller claws from the body, break the bigger claws and pincers into halves.Heat the oil in frying pan and add the coarsely crushed black peppercorns and crushed garlic. Fry for 30 second. Add the crab and sauté on slow heat for few minutes.
In a separate pan dry roast the grated coconut till brown. Remove from the heat and add some oil into the pan.
Fry the onions till brown and to it add the chopped ginger, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, chopped dry red chilies, cloves and cinnamon.
Fry for a while, remove from the heat and let it cool for sometime. Ground them together with the grated coconut in to a smooth paste.
Add this ground paste to the crab and mix well. Sauté for another 5 minutes and add the diluted coconut milk (dilute half of the coconut milk with water).
Cover the pan and simmer for 7-8 minutes.
Check the seasonings and stir in the remaining thick coconut milk. Bring it to the first boil and remove from the heat.
Garnish with the chopped coriander leaves.
Serve the hot Goan crab curry with steamed rice or Roti/Chapati.
